Teaching

Andrea has taught writing at the college level for the past twenty years. She has also taught community workshops for all ages and populations, including at homeless shelters and for young arts festivals.

While she was the faculty advisor for Arapahoe Community College’s Progenitor Art and Literary Journal in 2017, the issue was awarded “Most Outstanding Community College Literary Magazine” by American Scholastic Press Association. Many of her students have published pieces written in her classes, in Progenitor and elsewhere. A student’s personal essay written in Andrea’s creative nonfiction class, “Sapello Seasons,” placed first in Progenitor’s 2018 state-wide contest in nonfiction that was blindly judged by an award-winning writer. Two former students have gone on to complete MFA programs, and one former student self-published a novel.

Andrea currently coordinates the Journalism and Contemporary Media program at Arapahoe Community College and is the faculty advisor for The Arapahoe Pinnacle. ACC was awarded “Honorable Mention” in College Media Association’s The Pinnacle Awards for college-level student journalism for “Best Sports Investigative story” 2018-2019 and “Best News Photo,” for 2019-2020, keeping company with only four-year schools in those categories. Andrea also co-coordinates Writers Studio, the reading and event series, at Arapahoe Community College.

She is also available via online platforms for one-on-one tutoring on the college admissions essay. She was admitted to an Ivy League school despite choosing to attend a small, liberal arts college. Contact her via email for rates (from hourly to flat fee for as long as it takes): [email protected].
